Abstract:Objective To explore the application value of transthoracic echocardiography in the localization of the tip of central venous catheters. Methods Twenty-five patients hospitalized in the Department of Oncology at the Air Force Characteristic Medical Center from October 2023 to April 2024 who were scheduled for intravenous chemotherapy and central venous catheterization were selected. The catheterization methods included peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC) and totally implantable venous access port (TIVAP). During the catheterization process, transthoracic echocardiography and intracardiac electrocardiography were used for localization, and postoperatively, chest X-ray was performed to check the position of the catheter tip. The positions of the catheter tips were compared and analyzed. Results Among the 25 patients with central venous catheterization, there were 14 cases of PICC and 11 cases of TIVAP. The accuracy rate of transthoracic echocardiography in locating the catheter tip was 96.0% (24/25), while the accuracy rates of intracardiac electrocardiography and X-ray were both 100% (25/25), with no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05 for all). Conclusion Transthoracic echocardiography can accurately determine the position of the tip of central venous catheters and has clinical guiding significance, which can be widely promoted in clinical practice.
