Abstract:Objective: To analyze the disease spectrum of air medical evacuation cases from the Chinese second-level hospital of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (hereinafter referred to as the UNMIS-M), and to summarize the characteristics of air medical evacuation cases among peacekeeping forces. Methods: Collect air medical evacuation cases completed by the Chinese second-level hospital of the UNMIS-M from September 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023. Through analysis of the disease spectrum and the number of air medical evacuation cases from each contributing country, we explored the disease conditions of peacekeeping personnel in different systems and the disease characteristics of each contributing country. Results: The disease spectrum analysis showed that trauma, musculoskeletal diseases, and digestive system diseases accounted for a large proportion, with 19.39% (19/98), 14.29% (14/98), and 13.27% (13/98) respectively. Among all cases, the number of air medical evacuation cases from Bangladesh, Egypt, Sri Lanka, and Jordan, which were responsible for tasks such as security, transportation, patrol, and rapid response, was relatively high, at 21.43% (21/98), 19.39% (19/98), 13.27% (13/98), and 9.18% (9/98) respectively. During the mission period, only 3 cases of medical evacuation came from the Chinese peacekeeping force. Conclusion: The United Nations should reasonably plan the ratio of medical personnel and increase the proportion of personnel specialized in trauma and digestive system diseases. In addition, it should strengthen the safety protection and dietary management of peacekeeping personnel. Each contributing country should strictly enforce the criteria for including peacekeeping personnel, thereby improving the overall health level of the peacekeeping forces.
