Abstract:Globally, the incidence and prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are rapidly increasing. IBD is a chronic intestinal inflammatory disease, mainly characterized by ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. The diversity of gut microbiota and metabolic pathways in IBD patients are severely disrupted, manifested by an increase in pathogenic microorganisms and primary bile acids in the intestine. Gut microbiota regulate the bile acid profile in the intestine by converting primary bile acids into secondary bile acids, while bile acids can also affect the diversity of the gut microbiota. These imbalances can promote intestinal immune responses and exacerbate inflammation. Therefore, improving gut microbiota dysbiosis and bile acid metabolism disorders can help eliminate intestinal inflammation and repair the intestinal barrier, which is beneficial for the remission of IBD. In addition, the risk of colorectal cancer associated with IBD increases with the duration since diagnosis. Therefore, developing identifiable biomarkers for monitoring disease activity and progression in IBD patients has important clinical significance.
