Abstract:Inflammasomes are multi-protein complexes that play an important role in inflammatory responses, and their activation is regulated and influenced by various factors. SUMOylation, a type of post-translational modification (PTMs), also plays an important role in the regulation of inflammasome activation. This review systematically summarizes the SUMOylation modifications of the NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome, elucidates the biological roles of various SUMO-modifying molecules and SUMO ligases in activating NLRP3, and summarizes the patterns of SUMOylation affecting NLRP3 inflammasome activation, providing new insights for regulating inflammasome activation and treating inflammasome-related diseases.
