Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of solar therapy, hot spring water bath, aerobic exercise and drinking hydrogen-rich water on blood glucose, lipid metabolism and liver function in rats. Methods Forty-eight 6-week-old SD rats were randomly divided into six groups:the blank group, control group, sunlight group, hot spring group, exercise group, and hydrogen-rich water group, with 8 rats in each.Except the blank group, all the groups were fed with a high-fat diet. After 8 weeks of different interventions, blood glucose, blood lipids, and liver function were measured.Streptozotocin was injected on an empty stomach twice, with 48 hours apart, before blood samples were collected on the 2nd,4th,and 6th day after injection to measure blood glucose, lipid levels and liver function. Results After eight weeks of intervention, total cholesterol(TC)(P=0.563)in the sunlight group and alanine aminotransferase(ALT)(P=0.182)and aspartate aminotransferase(AST)(P=0.206)in the exercise group did not change significantly compared with the control group, but the levels of fasting blood glucose(FBG),TC,ALT,and AST in all the other groups of rats were significantly lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).Two days after injection of streptozotocin(STZ),FBG levels increased significantly in each of the groups except the sunlight group(P=0.101).The levels of FPG in all the other groups were lower than in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(all P<0.05).However,five days after injection of STZ,FBG levels increased dramatically in all the groups, but there were no significant differences in levels of FBG between each intervention group and the control group(all P<0.05).Seven days after injection of STZ,except the sunlight group, the levels of TC,ALT,and AST in each group were significantly lower than in the control group(all P<0.05).Conclusion Hot spring water baths, exercise therapy, and hydrogen-rich water therapy can delay the increase in blood glucose and blood lipids in rats and protect liver function to some extent.
