Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of icariin on orthodontic tooth movement and the expression of RUNX2 in periodontal tissue. Methods Twenty-four healthy male Sprague-Dawley(SD)rats were randomly divided into four groups∶ icariin 1,3,5 mg/kg group and control group.Icariin of different doses was ig given to these rats from the first day the torque device was placed. The same volume of physiological saline was given to the control group. All the rats were sacrificed after the torque device was loaded 14 days.Immunohistochemical staining was used to determine the expression of RUNX2.The range of tooth movement was measured.SPSS 17.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results The expression of RUNX2 in the experimental group was higher than in the control group. With the increase of drug concentration, the expression of RUNX2 was increased gradually(P<0.05).The range of tooth movement was reduced gradually. When the drug concentration was 5 mg/kg,tooth movement was minimized. Conclusion Icariin can restrain orthodontic tooth movement and increase the expression of RUNX2 on the tension side.
