Abstract:Objective To find out about the mental health status of field medical staff,to analyze the sources of stress, and to take appropriate measures to further improve the mental health of the field medical staff. Methods SCL-90 was used to conduct a questionnaire survey among 140 members of a field hospital(including specialized surgical teams)in a tertiary military hospital. The results of the questionnaire survey were statistically analyzed. Results The mental health status of the field medical staff was poorer than that of the general population. The SCL-90 scores and those of positive items, somatization, compulsion, interpersonal relationship, depression, anxiety, hostility, fear, paranoid, and psychotic disorders were significantly higher than the norm(P<0.05).At least 69% of field medical team members felt a variety of discomfort and other psychological symptoms, with somatization, depression, coercion, anxiety and hostility as the dominating symptoms. Conclusion Members of the field medical clinics are more vulnerable to such physical symptoms as somatization, depression, coercion, anxiety, and hostility than ordinary people(including soldiers from non-field medical institutions).A series of effective measures or interventions can be adopted to relieve these symptoms.
