Abstract:Objective To analyze the vision changes and physical development indexes of teenager aviation school students who had been followed up three times in two years. Methods The data on the indexes of vision and physical development of 218 students of the year of 2015 in school selection examinations and annual examinations in 2016 and 2017 was collected. The effects of height, relative body mass and body mass index(BMI=body weight /height2)of these students on the incidence of low visual acuity, and the correlations between BMI indexes and the refractive condition of participants with low visual acuity were compared. Results In the annual examination of 2016 and 2017,the rate of disqualification in ophthalmology respectively accounted for 88.24% and 86.96% of the students who failed the medical examination. The hypopsia rate was above 95.00%.The visual acuity level tended to decline. The refractive condition results of all the students with poor vision were not up to the standard. There were significant differences in such physical development indexes as height, weight and BMI.The correlation between BMI level changes and low vision was statistically significant(P<0.05).The equivalent lens value tended to be negative with the increase of BMI index levels. Conclusion In the process of training young flying students,BMI,as an important index of students' nutritional status and development, deserves more attention because of its significant relationship with vision.Targeted interventions with physical development can possibly serve as a new approach to protection of the vision of teenager aviation school students.
