Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical effect of transcranial approach to transsphenoidalencephalocele. Methods The data of a patient with transsphenoidalencephalocele who had undergone surgery using a transcranial approach was analyzed, and related literature was reviewed. Results The defect of the sphenoid bone of the patient was successfully reconstructed using a transcranial approach. Obstructive dyspnea was resolved immediately after surgery, with no complications. Conclusion The transcranial approach is still an important surgical approach to transsphenoidalencephalocele, especially for neonates and infants who need construction in the skull base due to large sphenoid bone defects, and/or narrow nasal cavity.
