Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlations between spinal mobility, maximal isometric strength and the lumbar dysfunction ODI scores among patients with low back pain. Methods The spinal mobility, maximal isometric strength and ODI scores of 56 subjects with lumbar disc herniation were measured respectively upon their discharge from the hospital and during their revisit one month after discharge. The extent of improvement of spinal mobility, maximal isometric strength and ODI scores was analyzed. Results The improved ODI scores were positively correlated with the improvement of the lumbar lateral flexion ROM and the maximal isometric strength of lateral flexion and rotation and the strength balance of rotation. Conclusion The ROM of lumbar lateral flexion, strength of lumbar lateral flexion and rotation muscles and the muscle balance of rotation muscles have correlations with the muscle function of lumbar and lower extremities. The ROM and strength of lateral flexion and rotation should be taken into consideration during rehabilitation exercises.
