Abstract:Objective To compare the curative effects of treating varicosis of the great saphenous vein with endovenous laser and stripping of the great saphenous vein. Methods The clinical data of 128 patients with unilateral great saphenous varicose veins who had been treated in our department between October 2014 and October 2015 were divided into two groups using the random number table method. Sixty-four of these patients underwent high ligation of the great saphenous vein combined with endovenous laser treatment and the rest were treated with high saphenous vein ligation and stripping. Results The endovenous laser treatment group was obviously superior to the vein stripping group (P<0.001) in the duration of surgery, intra-operative blood loss and postoperative recovery time, but the incidence of postoperative complications and recurrence was not different between the two groups (P>0.05). CEAP classification of the two groups three months after operation was improved significantly (P<0.05). Conclusion The combination of high ligation of the great saphenous vein with endovenous laser treatment is a safe and effective micro-invasive treatment for varicosis of the great saphenous vein.
