Abstract:Objective To analyze the curative effect of early orthostatic percussion on back rehabilitation in patients with severe pneumonia. Methods Seven-two patients enrolled in ICU between January 2013 and June 2016 were randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. Early rehabilitation was begun within 24 to 48 hours. Thirty-seven patients were in the experimental group in which the transfer machine and orthostatic suspension were performed twice a day and for 30 minutes per time. Percussion on the back was performed when the patients were in the orthostatic suspension state. The other thirty-five patients were enrolled in the control group in which limb rehabilitation by professional massage therapists and acupoint massage in TCM were performed to promote gastric emptying once per day. Physical vibration of lungs by the sputum elimination machine and air-power-driven pump was performed twice per day and for 30 minutes per time. Results The mean values of PaO2/FiO2, daily maximum temperature, C reactive protein, and procalcitonin were significantly different between the two groups after rehabilitation (P<0.05). There was also significant difference between the two groups in the mean gastric retention volume (P<0.05). Heart rate and blood pressure were not significantly different after orthostatic suspension in the experimental group. Conclusion Early orthostatic suspension rehabilitation in patients with severe pneumonia is more effective than other conventional treatments.
