Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of root canal therapy combined with periodontal flap surgery in the treatment of pulp-periodontal syndrome. Methods 101 patients with pulp-periodontal syndrome were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group. The observation group was treated with root canal therapy and periodontal flap surgery, while the control group was treated with root canal therapy alone. The clinical efficacy, changes of periodontium related indexes and bacteriological indexes before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group (94.12%) was higher than that in the control group (76.00%) (P<0.05). After treatment, the plaque index, probing depth, gingival index and sulcus bleeding index were significantly lower (P<0.05), and the above indexes in the observation group after treatment were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the bacterial infection rates in the two groups were significantly lower (P<0.05) but there were no significant differences in the bacterial infection rate or bacterial clearance rate between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion Root canal therapy combined with periodontal flap surgery is effective in the treatment of pulp-periodontal syndrome. The regimen can significantly improve periodontal health, and reduce the incidence of bacterial infection.
