Abstract:Objective To determine the dynamic changes of blood pressure during flight, and explore the potential causes of fluctuation. Methods Blood pressure of thirty-eight adults was measured at baseline, during climb of an aircraft, 30, 38 and 45 min into the flight. Multivariate regression analysis was performed to identify the related factors. Results Blood pressure rose considerably during the climb, but dropped gradually with the increase of altitude. 45 min into the flight, the mean blood pressure was significantly lower than the baseline. Multivariate regression analysis indicated that preexisting hypertension was associated with the changes of blood pressure during the climb. Age, sex, BMI and smoking did not seem to be related to the dynamic changes of blood pressure during flight. Conclusion Blood pressure tends to rise before dropping, thus cardiac function monitoring should be enhanced during evacuation of the wounded.
