Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlations between serum visfatin(VF) and coronary atherosclerosis (AS) amongmilitary pilots. Methods Fifty military pilots with coronary atherosclerosis, 50 ground crew with coronary atherosclerosis, 200 healthy military pilots and 200 healthy ground crew were enrolled in this study. The serum VF and IL-6 levels were measured with enzyme linked immune sorbent assay (ELISA). Results The serum VF levels and IL-6 levels in the group of military pilots with coronary atherosclerosis were significantly higher than those of the healthy military pilot group (P<0.05), the serum VF levels and IL-6 levels in the group of ground crew with coronary atherosclerosis were significantly higher than that of the healthy ground crew group (P<0.05), and the serum VF levels and IL-6 levels in the group of military pilots with coronary atherosclerosis were significantly higher than those of the ground crew group with coronary atherosclerosis (P<0.05). VF levels were related to IL-6 levels in the group of military pilots with coronary atherosclerosis and the group of ground crew with coronary atherosclerosis(P<0.05). Conclusion VF can be regarded as an indicator of the risk of coronary atherosclerosis among military pilots.
