Abstract:Objective To investigate the association of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and adiponectin (APN) with coronary atherosclerosis in flying personnel. Methods This study retrospectively included 120 cases of coronary atherosclerosis (group A) and 240 healthy people (group B). Group A was divided into two groups, including 60 flying personnel (flying personnel A group) and 60 ordinary people (ordinary people A group). Group B was composed of 115 healthy flying personnel (flying personnel B group) and 125 healthy ordinary people (ordinary people B group). Such biochemical data as uric acid (UA) and total cholesterol (TC) was collected and recorded. The concentration of HO-1 and APN measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was compared between each group. Results The level of HO-1 and APN in flying personnel A group was significantly lower than that in flying personnel B group and ordinary people A group (P<0.01,P<0.05). The serum level of HO-1 in ordinary people B group was higher than that of ordinary people A group and flying personnel B group (P<0.01,P<0.05) and the serum APN in ordinary people B group was higher than that of ordinary people A group (P<0.01). The correlation analysis showed that there was a positive correlation between APN and HO-1 (r=0.679,P<0.01). The level of APN was negatively related to TC or UA (r=-0.566、-0.503,P<0.001).Conclusion The reduced level of HO-1 and APN may be an important factor for flying personnel with coronary atherosclerosis.
