Abstract:ObjectiveTo study how electronic health records (EHRs) can play an important role in medical services. MethodsThe advantages, problems and solutions relating to the use of EHRs for medical research and healthcare in western countries were studied and analyzed.ResultsSuccessful implementation and development of the best practice approach in healthcare depend on easy access to high quality, updated, and comprehensive information. EHRs are the richest source of medical evidence and health information, with such advantages as fewer duplications and errors, improved resource management and better decision making. However, EHRs can sometimes pose an obstacle or risk to healthare, involving the accessibility to information, privacy and integrity of the shared information. There are also some countermeasures.ConclusionsOnly by maximizing the advantages and solving the problems will EHRs play a pivotal role in medical research and healthcare.
