Treatment and aviation medical evaluation of parotid tumor in pilots

Abstract：ObjectiveTo analyze the characteristics of diagnosis, treatment and medical evaluation of parotid tumor in pilots.MethodsThe medical information of four pilots who had suffered from parotid tumor between May and October 2012 was collected. Then, the medical history, laboratory results, instrument check results, treatments, medical evaluation results were analyzed.ResultsEach case had only one parotid tumor in the left and received surgery. Three of the cases had malignant tumor according to the pathological report and received radiotherapy. Three returned to flight and one was, temporarily grounded after a second surgery due to cancer recidivism accompanying cervical lymph node metastasis.ConclusionPunctual surgery is quite effective for parotid tumor among pilots. Most of them are able to return to flight.
