Abstract:[Abstrsct] Objective To compare the efficacy of pedicle screw systems with and without pedicle screws on the fractured level for thoracolumbar spine fracture. Methods The clinical data of 98 patients who had been surgically treated between January 2013 and December 2014 at our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into two groups according to surgical methods: 52 patients via the injured vertebrae and 46 patients across the injured vertebrae. The preoperative and postoperative anterior vertebral body height ratio, sagittal Cobb's angle, operation time, and intraoperative blood loss of the two groups of patients were compared. Results There was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05)in the sagittal Cobb's angle or anterior vertebral body height ratio preoperatively, both of which, however, changed significantly postoperatively(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the operation time or intraoperative blood loss(P>0.05). Conclusion Both pedicle screws systems with and without pedicle screws on the fractured level deliver a satisfactory curative effect in the treatment of thoraculumbar fracture. However, the pedicle screw system with pedicle screws on the fractured level is more effective than the pedicle screws system without pedicle screws on the fractured level for maintaining recovery of vertebral body height and correction of deformity.
