Diagnosis, treatment and medical evaluation of syncope in military flight personnel,36 cases of clinical analysis

Abstract:Objective To summarize the features of syncope diagnosis and medical assessment to provide reference for the diagnosis and aviation medical evaluation of syncope in flight personnel. Methods The 36 cases of patients with syncope, who were hospitalized in Air Force General Hospital from October 1998 to October 2015, were retrospectively analyzed and relevant literatures were reviewed. Results The age group from 30 to 39 years old had the higher proportion, a total of 19 cases, which was accounting for 52.8%; in the group of 36 patients, 23 cases of vasovagal syncope which were accounting for 63.9% were the highest incidence of syncope, 19 cases were qualified for flying, 7 cases were disqualified temporarily for flying, 10 cases were disqualified for flying; there was no significant difference for pilot with syncope in different planes. Conclusions Syncope in flight personnel is common, including ground syncope and air syncope. What is more, diagnosis and treatment has its particularity; in accordance with the current standard for physical examination of the flying personnel learning from American flight personnel identification and waiver standards,medical identification depends on the intensive, aircraft, experience, flight capacity, personal intention and the army needs.
