Abstract:ObjectiveTo explore the expression levels of Runx2 andβ-catenin in periodontal tissue of the tension side during orthodontic tooth movement.MethodsA model of OTM on the left maxillary first molar in rats was established. A total of 36 SPF male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into six groups: 0 h, 12 h, 24 h, 5 d, 7 d, and 14 d after orthodontic force application. There were six rats in each group. A Nickel-titanium closed-coil spring was fixed between the maxillary left first molar and incisors, and was used to deliver an initial 50 g mesial force to the left maxillary first molar. The right maxillary molars without force application served as control. The expression changes of Runx2 andβ-catenin in periodontal tissue of tension side at different staining period were detected with RT-PCR methods. The data were analyzed with SPSS 16.0 software.ResultsThe expression levels of Runx2 andβ-catenin increased during orthodontic tooth movement and were related to the movement time. They reached the peak after straining for 7 d and then began to decrease after straining for 14 d.ConclusionsRunx2 andβ-catenin participated in the reconstruction of periodontal tissue, suggesting that Wnt signaling pathway might be one of regulation pathways in periodontal tissue remodeling during orthodontic tooth movement.
