Abstract:ObjectiveTo investigate the mental health status of military personnel in one engineering troop. MethodsA questionnaire survey was carried out with the symptom checklist-90 (SCL-90) in 784 military personnel in one engineering troop, and was compared with SCL-90 norm of Chinese military personnel. Results The positive solider was 261 cases, the positive rate was 33.29% .The general mean score of SCL-90 and the scores of obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, paranoid ideation and somatization about military personnel in the engineering group were significantly lower than that of SCL-90 norm of Chinese military personnel (P<0.01). The scores of somatization were significantly higher than that of SCL-90 norm of Chinese military personnel(P<0.01). The hostility and phobic anxiety score was not statistically significantly different (P>0.05). The SCL-90 total and all the factor scores of soldiers from rural areas was not statistically significantly different than those from urban areas (P>0.05). The factor scores of SCL-90 total and other the factor scores except somatization of only-child soldiers were significantly higher than those non-only-child soldiers(P<0.05,P<0.01 ). The SCL-90 total and all the factor scores of soldiers with working-time≤6 h were significantly lower than those soldiers with working-time>6 h(P<0.01 ).ConclusionThe mental health status of military personnel in the engineering troop is good, while mental intervention should be strengthened for some high scores(somatization) and some population group(only-child soldiers, long working-time soldiers).
