Abstract:ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical features of small bowel diverticulum and assess the value of balloon-assisted enteroscopy(BAE) in diagnosis of small bowel diverticulum and guiding significance for the treatment. MethodsA retrospective analysis was conducted on general conditions, site of lesion, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment of 53 patients with small bowel diverticulum enrolled from December 2006 to July 2014 at Air Force General Hospital. All the patients were examined by BAE.ResultsAmong the 53 eligible subjects there were 8 cases(15.09%) of duodenal diverticulum, 29 cases(54.72%) of Meckel’s diverticulum and 16 cases(30.19%) of jejunoileal diverticulums.5 cases of them were multiple diverticulums, while the other 48 cases were single diverticulum. Incidence of gastrointestinal hemorrhage was 86.79%(46/53), abdominal pain and diarrhea 26.42%(14/53), and anemia 88.68%(47/53). Surgery was performed on 30 patients.ConclusionBAE is helpful and directive to the diagnosis of diverticulum of small bowel and has a guiding significance for the treatment.
