Abstract:ObjectiveTo investigate the distribution of air trapping (AT) at expiratory scans in asymptomatic population and the relationships between AT and age, smoking.MethodsTotal of 64 asymptomatic subjects were included in this study. Lung CT scans were performed in the 64 subjects and the quantification of AT was done in the CT images. And the relationship between air trapping at expiratory scans and age, smoking of the subjects was analyzed. Results The total incidence of air trapping in the 64 subjects was 46.88% (30/64), which was independent from age(P>0.05), but was closely related with smoking(P<0.05). The AT incidences of the smokers who had smoked for more than 30 years was significantly higher than that of the ones who had smoked for less than 30 years(P<0.05).ConclusionThe incidence of AT in this study is 46.88%.AT is independent from age, but is closely related with smoking. The ones with more than 30 years of smoking history are more prone to have AT.
