Abstract:Objective To explore the diagnosis and operating methods of the high level lumbar disc herniation by micro-endoscopic discectomy(MED).Methods 10 cases were all operated by MED successfully. Results The operating time was 1.0~1.5 hours, and the blood loss was 10~50 ml. The incision was primarily healed without any infection. The hospitalization was 5~7 days (mean 6 days). Both the backaches and the leg pains were obviously reduced immediately after the operation. All the cases were followed up for 1~4 years. Conclusions Because of the defferent anatomic characteristics, the high level disc herniation had complex clinical manifestation. Therefore, the missed diagnosis rates and misdiagnosis rates were high, and the operating treatment was difficult. The methods of treating high level herniation by MED have the advantages of little trauma, simple, safe and rapid recovery.
