On issues to define telemedicine standard of care

Abstract：Objective Telemedicine standard of care was discussed to address telemedicine malpractice. Method The standard of care is analyzed based on telemedicine characteristics and laws enacted in some states of USA. Results Given the distinctiveness of telemedicine from the conventional medicine, it is very important to properly define the telemedicine and the situations under which telemedicine should be utilized and, as a result, different standards of care should be designed to accommodate different telemedicine situations. Conclusion Healthcare providers’hesitation should be alleviated to utilize telemedicine and maximize the benefits of telemedicine on one hand. And the risks of telemedicine should be mitigated, on the other hand, for accessible,efficient, cost-effective and convenient healthcare.
