Analysis of forward otolaryngology examination in2013 annual Air Force cadet selection's work

Abstract:ObjectiveWe targeted to evaluate the effect of forward otolaryngology examination on undetermined and eliminated flight crew candidates in 2013 annual Air Force cadet selection's work.MethodsSubjects from seven military area commands were selected from those who had passed the first or second physical examinations. Physical examination was strictly performed according to“guideline for Air Force cadet selections”. Then, the results of elimination on otolaryngology and dentistry were analyzed.ResultsIn elimination group, top three abnormalities were: 68 cases had hearing loss (38.4%), 33 cases had vestibular dysfunction (18.6%) and 19 cases had nasal septum deviation (10.7%). In undetermined group, top three abnormalities were: 47 cases had nasal septum deviation (58.0%), 11 cases had malocclusion (13.6%), 7 cases had orthodontic unfinished (8.6%).ConclusionForward otolaryngology examination in annual Air Force cadet selection's work provides foundation for stable cadets source and improves cadets quality.
