The postoperative condition of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinoma: the value of CT study
Abstract:Purpose To evaluate the value of CT in the postoperative condition of the laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinoma. Materials and methods The CT features of the normal and abnormal postoperative condition of the laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinoma were analyzed retrospectively in 45 cases (69 CT scans during postoperative 1~120 months) confirmed by laryngoscopy, biopsy or surgery. Results 10 cases showed normal postoperative changes of the laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinoma, 8 cases demonstrated edema or scar tissue, and 2 had postoperative retention cysts. 25 patients showed tumor recurrence or/and metastases, including local tumor recurrences 18 cases, cervical lymph node metastases 13 cases and distant metastases 2 cases. Conclusion CT scan can clearly display the normal and abnormal postoperative condition of the laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinoma, detect the tumor recurrence and the extent of tumor, and is played an important role in the clinical management for the postoperative condition of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinoma.
