Effect of Compound Scutellaria Gargle on Periodontal Clinical Index in Patients with Chronic Periodontitis

Abstract：Objective To study the effect of compound Scutellaria gargle on serum leptin(LEP)level and periodontal clinical index in patients with chronic periodontitis,providing reference for clinical treatment.Methods Patients with moderate and severe chronic periodontitis were randomly selected 6 weeks after periodontal basic treatment.Group A was gargarized with compound Scutellaria gargle and group B was gargarized with normal saline,with 30 cases in each group.Probing depth(PD),loss of attachment(AL),plaque index(PLI)and bleeding on probe(BOP)were recorded at baseline and after 1 and 3 months of treatment.Serum LEP levels were determined by ELISA.Results There was no significant difference in periodontal clinical index and LEP level between group A and group B at baseline(P＞0.05).Compared with baseline,the levels of PD,PLI,BOP and LEP in group A were significantly decreased at 1 and 3 months after treatment(P＜0.05),while AL had no significant change at 1 month after treatment(P＞0.05),and was significantly decreased only at 3 months(P＜0.05);however,the periodontal clinical treatment indexes of group B had no significant changes at 1 and 3 months after treatment(P＞0.05).Compared with group B,the periodontal clinical indexes and LEP levels in group A were significantly decreased at 1 and 3 days after treatment(P＜0.05).Conclusion In chronic periodontitis patients,gargling with compound scutellaria gargle after 1 month of periodontal basic treatment can effectively reduce periodontal clinical indexes and serum leptin levels.
