Study on the Correlation Between Excessive Daytime Sleepiness and Serum Hypoxia-inducible Factor-1α Level in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome

Abstract：Objective To investigate the correlation between excessive daytime sleepiness and HIF-1α(HIF-1α)levels in pa-tients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome.Methods A total of 103 patients admitted to the Sleep Diagnosis and Treat-ment Center of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Jinzhou Medical University from January 2019 to October 2021 were collected.All pa-tients underwent overnight PSG monitoring,and their medical history data were retrospectively analyzed.Epworth Narcolepsy Scale(ESS)scores were collected.Then the serum HIF-1α level of the patients was measured by ELISA.According to PSG results,the patients in the OSAHS group were divided into simple snoring group(AHI<5 times/h)and OSAHS group(AHI≥5 times/h).The OSAHS group was further divided into the OSAHS group(ESS≥10 points,39 cases)and the OSAHS group without OSAHS(ESS<10 points,44 cases)according to the ESS scale score.The clinical characteristics of each group were analyzed and compared,and the correlation between ESS score and HIF-1α level was analyzed by Spearman correlation analysis.Results(1)Among the 103 pa-tients included,29 were female and 74 were male;age(45±12.65)years old;BMI(28.6±4.04)kg/m2.There were 20 cases in the simple snoring group and 83 cases in the OSAHS group(39 cases in the group somnia OSAHS group and 44 cases in the non-som-nia OSAHS group).The rates of BMI,ESS score,neck circumference,hyperlipidemia,arrhythmia,diabetes and coronary heart disease in OSAHS group were higher than those in simple snoring group(all P<0.05);(2)compared with simple snoring group,there were statistically significant differences between LOS,CT90%,T90%,AHI and HIF-1α in OSAHS group(P<0.05),(3)ESS score was positively correlated with HIF-1α,AHI,T90%and CT90%(rHIF-1α=0.22,rAHI=0.41,rT90%=0.46,rCT90%= 0.42,all P<0.05).It was negatively correlated with LOS and TST(rLOS=-0.50,rTST=-0.30,both P<0.05).Conclusion The ESS score of excessive daytime sleepiness is correlated with the serum HIF-1α level of patients,which may be an important indicator for patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome.
