Abstract:Objective To investigate the influence of pit and fissure sealant ( pFS) on preventing dental caries of first permanent molars and provide scientific basis for clinical work. Methods 256 patients were randomly selected from outpatients in our hospital from February 2011 to February 2013. They were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, each with 128 pa-tients in terms of different methods of prevention of dental caries. Both groups were given routine oral care and the observation group was treated with pFS additionally. Both groups were reviewed after 12 months, 24 months and 36 months to observe and compare the incidence of dental caries. Results The dental caries rates were 3. 91%, 3. 91% and 4. 69% respectively among the 128 cases of observation group after 12 months, 24 months and 36 months, which were significantly lower than 14. 84%, 16. 41% and 18. 75%(P<0. 05) of the control group. There are significant difference between the two groups, with statistical significance. Conclusion pFS can effectively reduce the incidence of dental caries in children, which should be widely applied due to its obvious long-term effects.
