Abstract:Objective To study the effect and factors of autogenous cartilage transplantation used for the treatment of knee joint cartilage defect. Methods In the period from February 2013 to May 2015, 60 cases of patients with knee joint cartilage injury were treated in our hospital and they were taken as the research objects. According to the size of the defect, 22 cases were divided into group A ( defect < 2 mm) , 20 cases into group B ( defect < 4 mm) , and 18 cases into group C ( defect > 4 mm) . The 3 groups all adopted autologous cartilage transplantation. With reference to Brittberg-peterson function evaluation standard, patients of the 3 groups were compared in the aspects of function and imaging features. Results Three groups’ reexamination by magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI) showed the original defect cartilage surface was smooth, the transplanted cartilage location was good, and the donor area sur-face was smooth without obvious hyperplasia. The result of the 3 groups according to Brittberg-peterson function evaluation standard was that group A was the best, group B took second place, and group C was the worst. Conclusion Autologous cartilage transplanta-tion is simple to get materials. With stable bone blocks, the subchondral bone has enough strength to maintain integrity of articular car-tilage, and has no rejection reaction. The autologous cartilage transplant has distinct treatment effect, which is an ideal method to re-pair cartilage damage, but its efficacy depends on the size of defect.
