Abstract:Objective To study the inhibitory effect of cystamine on right ventricular hypertrophy in rats induced by monocrotal-ine. Methods The rat model with pulmonary hypertension induced by monocrotaline was established. After treatment with cystamine for 3 weeks, pulmonary arterial pressure, right ventricular hypertrophy index, and RhoAserotonylation and protein kinase B ( Akt) phosphorylation in right ventricle, left ventricle and ventricular septum were measured. Results pulmonary artery pressure, right ventricular hypertrophy index and Akt phosphorylation in the right ventricle in rats induced by monocrotaline significantly increased, and cystamine inhibited these changes. However, RhoAserotonylation in the right ventricle, the left ventricle and ventricular septum, and Akt phosphorylation in the right ventricle did not change significantly. Conclusion Cystamine inhibits right ventricular hypertro-phy in rats induced by monocrotaline, which may be related to the inhibition of Akt activity.
