Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of N-acetylcysteine inhalation on postoperative pneumonia among elderly patients with abdominal surgery. Methods 70 cases of elderly patients after the abdominal surgery were randomly divided into two groups:the control group of 35 cases with conventional treatment of ambroxol injection and the experimental group of 35 cases treated with acetyl-cysteine inhalation on the basis of the control group. Clinical Pulmonary Infection Score ( CPIS) and the incidence of pneumonia of the patients in the two groups were observed. Results The CPIS scores of the control group on the 7th day and the 10th day after surgery were higher than those of the experimental group. The difference was statistically significant (P<0. 05), the incidence of pneumonia in the control group on the 10th day after surgery was 34. 3% (12 cases), while the incidence of pneumonia in the experimental group was 11. 4% (4 cases). The differences were statistically significant (P<0. 05). Conclusion Elderly patients after the abdominal surgery on the basis of conventional ambroxol injection combined with acetylcysteine inhalation in the early stage can reduce the degree of pneumonia and the incidence of pneumonia. It’s worthy of clinical promotion and application.
