Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical effect of somatostatin in the treatment of malignant intestinal obstruction and ear-ly postoperative inflammatory ileus. Methods A total of 80 cases of patients with malignant intestinal obstruction and those with early postoperative inflammatory ileus admitted into our hospital from January 2012 to January 2013 were selected as research subjects and randomly divided into the observation group and the control group, with 40 cases in each group. The control group was given symptom-atic and supportive treatment, while the observation group was given somatostatin apart from the treatment for the former group, until the recovery of gastrointestinal function. Operations were implemented on the patients to whom the two weeks’ treatment was ineffective or getting condition aggravated. After treatment, the clinical effect of the two groups was analyzed. Results After clinical treatment, the time length of the improvement of the clinical symptoms and signs in the observation was significantly shorter than that of the control group, with statistically significant difference (P <0. 05). There was no statistically significant difference in the gastrointestinal de-compression and C-reactive protein quantities before treatment between the two groups (P> 0. 05). After treatment, for the observa-tion group, the gastrointestinal decompression and C-reactive protein decreased more than those of the control group (P>0. 05), the time of recovery of water-electrolyte, acid-base equilibrium levels, and radiographic X-ray was significantly shorter than that of the control group (P> 0. 05), the number of cured and improved patients was significantly larger than that of the control group, and the total effective rate notably increased (P> 0. 05), all with statistically significant difference. Conclusion In the treatment of malig-nant intestinal obstruction and early postoperative inflammatory ileus, conventional medicine combined with somatostatin can gain a better effect, remarkably relieving patients’ symptoms and further improving the total effective rate, which is worthy of wide applica-tion.
