Abstract:Objective To compare the clinical efficacy of mosapride and teprenone in treating patients with functional dyspepsia (FD).Methods This is a prospective clinical comparative study with randomized allocation trials.1 042 patients with symptoms of FD, either gastric stasis ( GSS) and/or epigastric pain (EPS), were selected. After initial endoscopic evaluation, patients took ei-ther mosapride 5 mg tid or teprenone 50 mg tid.Severity and frequency of GSS and EPS, health-related quality of life (HR-QOL), and patients'compliance to medication were evaluated. Results Of the 1027 patients, organic lesions were found examined by en-doscopy in 90 patients (9%).Among those without any speci c lesions detected by endoscopy , gastrointes-tinal symptoms were re-solved within one week after the endoscopy in 264 (28%) patients before initiating medication.618 patients who remained symptomat-ic were randomized to medication either with mosapride (n=311) or teprenone (n=307).Compared with teprenone, two-week treat-ment with mosapride signi cantly improvedGSS and EPS.Mosapride also improved HR-QOL.62% of patients preferred to be treat-ment with mosapride, while only 27.6% of patients favored the treatment with teprenone.Co nclusions Endoscopic examination proves to be useful in improving FD symptom.Patients prefer mosapride to teprenone for its safety and efficacy.
