Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of intensive treatment of short-term insulin pump for elderly patients with type 2 diabetes in the initial phase on their pancreatic islet function. Methods 65 patients with type 2 diabetes in the initial phase who were treated in the department of endocrinology in our hospital from April, 2011 to June, 2013 were selected and divided randomly into Group A ( observation group) with 33 patients and Group B ( control group) with 32 patients with number table to investigate the effect of intensive treatment of short-term insulin pump for elderly patients with type 2 diabetes in the initial phase on their pancreatic islet function. Results The difference of each index of the patients before and after treatment between the two groups was statistically sig-nificant (P<0. 05), Group A with an obviously better curative effect than Group B, the difference of the patients' pancreatic islet func-tion before and after treatment between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0. 05), Group A with an obviously better curative effect than Group B, with one year's follow-up, the difference of each index and the patients' pancreatic islet function was founded sta-tistically insignificant (P>0. 05), Group A with a similar curative effect with Group B. Conclusions Intensive treatment of short-term insulin pump can significantly improve each index and pancreatic islet function of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes in the initial phase. But after one-year treatment, indexes and pancreatic islet function of Group A show no difference from those of the control group.
