Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of different alcohol levels on sperm dynamic parameters of male rats by measuring them after establishing a model of chronic ethanol ingestion of male rats. Methods 40 healthy Sprague-Dawley adult male rats were randomly divided into four groups. The control group was fed with alcohol distilled water. The other three groups were respectively fed with different doses of alcohol [0.5 g / (kg·d), 2.5 g / (kg·d), 5 g / (kg·d)] for 20 weeks by gavage. Sperm dynamic pa-rameters were determined. Results Parameters in the alcohol groups, including the linear motion speed, amplitude of lateral swing of sperm head, whipping frequency, straightness and linearity, were lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant difference (P<0.05 or P<0.01). There was no significant difference in terms of sperm density, mean rate and curvilinear motion rate. Conclusion Chronic ethanol ingestion will influence the fertility of male rats by affecting the function of the accessory glands of male rats, which leads to abnormality of the sperms' dynamic parameters.
