Abstract:Objective To evaluate the quality of obstetrics in our hospital by comparing the actual rate of cesarean section and risked adjusted rate of first-time cesarean section. Methods A retrospective study was carried out among 5 542 cases of women giving birth in the hospital from January 2009 to December 2010, including 2 276 cases of cesarean section.Risk factors involved with cesare-an section were researched and logistic regression equations were established by which the probabilities of cesarean section among moth-ers meeting the research criteria were computed. The average probability was the risk adjusted rate of first-time cesarean section.Re-sults The risks involved with cesarean section including primipara, elder age, complications of pregnancy, high income, high educa-tion, etc.The rate of cesarean section of the research group was remarkably lower than that of the control group, the difference between which was statistically significant (P<0.05).As for postoperative abdominal infections, postpartum hemorrhage and neonatal asphyxi-a, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05).Conclusion The risk adjusted rate of cesarean section is one of the most reliable indicators for evaluating the quality of obstetrics.
