Study of Collagen Monolayers at Air- Solution Interface
Abstract:Spread monolayers of the fibril protein I-collagen were studied at the air - water interface in the presence of water, CaC12 solution and calcium bicarbonate solution. The surface pressure isotherms curve (π- curve) of collagen monolayers showes that collagen has a good ability to spread monolayers at air-water. The morphology of collagen LB films has been characterized by atom force microscopy (AFM) , and the results in- dicate that spread collagen monolayers at the airwater interface have the ability to form supramolecular struc- tures (fibrils). It is very important to understand its ability for spreading monolayers; meantime, it has poten- tial value to study the role of the collagen played in the process of biomineralization.
