Types of microfacies and analysis of the sedimentary environments of Mantou Formation in the Yuntai World Geopark
Abstract:Well-developed mixed siliciclastic-carbonate sedimentary rocks are deposited in Mantou Formation in the Yuntai World Geopark.Detailed studies about characteristics of the mixed sedimentary rocks in this area were conducted on the base of regional geological data and field observations,as well as intense thin section analyses in present research. The Mantou Formation revealed a mixed limited carbonate platform as a whole, and mixed open carbonate platform is developed only at top of this formation.Seven microfacies can be observed from bottom to top, including hybrid flat, hybrid lagoon, hybrid ooliic beach, oolitic beach, hybrid shoal, hybrid tidal channels, and hybrid interbank microfacies.Through further analysis of the evolution of depositional environments,it can be inferred that, the sea levels in this period is fluctuating but rising up as a result. The research provided an important basis for the recovery of the Cambrian palaeogeography in this area.
