Characterization of Aggregate Multi-scale Particle Shape and Its Impact on Concrete Performance

Abstract：The characterization methods of aggregate particle shape and their advantages and disadvantages were systematically reviewed from three scales:shape,angularity,and surface texture.The influence mechanisms of particle shape characteristics at different scales on the workability,mechanical properties,and durability of concrete were thoroughly investigated.It is demonstrated that concrete performance is significantly altered by aggregate particle shape through its effects on particle packing density,the characteristics of the interfacial transition zone,and transport pathways.
