Abstract:To improve the mechanical properties of thin porcelain tile, the influence of adding short ZrO2 fiber as reinforcement on the properties of porcelain was studied. The results show that the toughness will decrease when ZrO2 fiber content(by mass)is below 4.0%.The bending strength increases by 10.84% to 77.60 MPa while the work of fracture decreases 22.36% to 383.21J/m2 when ZrO2 fiber content is 2.0%.The loose microstructure of ZrO2 fiber, its transition from tetragonal phase to cubic phase, its inhabiting effect on melt of SiO2 phase and precipitation of mullite are all disadvantages of reinforcement and toughening.
