Abstract:Water reducible curing agent For type I waterborne epoxy system was synthesized. Lowrelative molecular mass epoxy resin was reacted with an nonionic surfactant to form an adduct whichwas then reacted with excess polyethylene polyamine to form epoxy amine adduct with terminatedamine group and segment of surfactant in molecular chain. To prolong pot life of waterborne epoxycoating monoglycidyl ether was used to cap part of primary amine hydrogen. Finally the adduct wassalted with acid to achieve better hydrophilic and lipophilic balance. The resulted curing agent showsboth abilities to disperse epoxy resin and cure the resin. The effects of relative molecular mass of BMJand equivalent ratio of amine hydrogen/epoxy on emulsion stability, curing speed and coating filmhardness were investigated.
