Abstract:Sphere indentation stress-strain relation and contact damage for pure brittle and quasi-brittle materias were investigated using steel using steel spheres with fefferent sizes as the indenter Elastic modulus and the citical stress to cause damage were determined on the baase of linear elasticf relationship be-tween the load and the contact area It eas demonstrated that the indentation method is available and conventient for noondeestruct\ive erevaluation and in-siitu testing of britt;e compponents especially for con-crete structure Experiments with fefferent concrete speciments ans glass were pertfomed anmd corre-sponding young ;s modulus was obtained A small and simple devvice for in-situ test was designed and machined
