Abstract:[Objective]Defects such as root undercutting at the small end and tip tapering at the large end of face gears directly limit the tooth width and reduce the transmission bearing capacity. To address this issue,a mathematical model for face gear tooth surfaces was established, and the influence of modification on tooth width and bearing capacity was studied to make up for the shortcomings of existing research.[Methods]Firstly, based on the established mathematical model of the face gear tooth surface, the calculation formula for tooth width was derived according to the conditions of root undercutting and tip tapering.Secondly, combined with the actual working conditions, comparative tests were carried out to verify the rationality of the model and the effectiveness of modification.[Results]The test results show that reasonable modification can effectively avoid root undercutting and tip tapering defects, increase the tooth width, and improve the bearing capacity of the gear. The maximum bending stress of the unmodified face gear is 442.08 MPa,while that of the modified face gear with a profile shift coefficient of 0.3 is 129.35 MPa,which indicates that modification can significantly reduce the bending stress of the gear and improve the bearing capacity.References can be provided for the design of small transmission ratio face gears.
