Abstract:[Objective]Aimed at the difference in the evaluation of tooth surface contact strength of spiral bevel gears by the strength check criterions in three standards, namely the Aviation Industry Standard of China(HB for short),the International Organization for Standardization(ISO)standard, and the American Gear Manufacturers Association(AGMA)standard, the optimal strategy for the design of spiral bevel gear pairs was explored through comparative analysis.[Methods]Firstly,in-depth analysis was conducted on the influence of different strength check criterions on the tooth surface contact strength of spiral bevel gears from the aspects of calculation principle, calculation formula, and correction coefficient.Secondly, case analysis was carried out to explore the influence law of different gear blank parameters on the correction coefficient and contact stress.[Results]The results show that,in terms of calculation principle, the AGMA standard is calculated based on the Hertz contact theory using the original parameters at the large end, while the HB and ISO standards are calculated based on the midpoint equivalent gear model combined with the Hertz contact theory. In terms of the correction coefficients introduced in the contact stress calculation formula and their corresponding calculation formulas, the ISO standard considers more comprehensive factors and is more complex in calculation than the HB and AGMA standards, among which the calculation of dynamic load factor and helix load distribution factor has the greatest impact on the stress results. In terms of the variation law of contact stress, among the three standards, gear blank parameters such as number of teeth, module, tooth width, helix angle, and pressure angle all have a great impact on contact stress, but the variation law of the influence of helix angle on contact stress is slightly different. In addition, there is no fixed relation where one is more conservative than the other two among the contact strength calculation results of the three standards.
