Abstract:[Objective]Herringbone gears inevitably exhibit bilateral tooth misalignment during manufacturing, which may cause excessive load differences between bilateral teeth or even single-side loading, leading to premature gear failure. To address this issue, the influence of misalignment error on the stress difference between bilateral teeth was studied.[Methods]Through the theoretical derivation, the relation among meshing stiffness, misalignment error, torque variation, and stress difference coefficient was obtained.Based on the finite element simulation model considering misalignment error, the influence of misalignment error, meshing stiffness, and torque on the root tensile stress, compressive stress, and stress difference coefficient of herringbone gear bilateral teeth was calculated. The contact stress distribution of bilateral teeth was analyzed, the intervals of single-side meshing and double-side meshing were determined, and the correctness of theoretical analysis was verified.[Results]The simulation results show that in addition to improving machining accuracy, increasing system torque, reducing meshing stiffness, and enhancing the axial flexibility of gear shafts are effective methods to reduce the stress difference of herringbone gear bilateral teeth.
