Abstract:[Objective]In order to verify the advantages of the octoidal bevel gear in processing and meshing performance,it was compared with the spherical involute bevel gear.[Methods]Firstly, with the help of the spatial involute generation theory and coordinate transformation, the tooth surface equation of the spherical involute bevel gear was established, and the tooth surface model of the octoidal bevel gear was developed by the crown-gear.Secondly,according to the condition of continuous tangency between the fillet surface and both the working tooth surface and the tooth root surface, the Hermite interpolation was used to interpolate the tooth fillet surface. Finally, the tooth surface deviation, tooth surface patterns and tooth strength of two kinds of bevel gears were analyzed by Ease-off method, tooth surface contact analysis and finite element method.[Results]The results of the example show that the working tooth surface of the octoidal bevel gear processed by the crown-gear is basically close to the working tooth surface of the spherical involute gear, but it becomes thicker near the tooth fillet and thinner near the tooth toe,the variation is approximately linear with the modulus and pressure angle, and both of them are line contact forms. The finite element calculation results show that the bending strength of the tooth fillet is increased by 6.24%.Under light load, the edge contact of tooth toe is avoided.
