Abstract:[Objective]The operational conditions of wind turbines are complex and variable, which impose higher require-ments on the load-bearing capacity and service life of gears. The impact of different hardened layer depths on the bending fa-tigue strength of wind turbine gears was investigated, aiming to provide a design basis and test support for the optimization of de-sign,manufacturing,and heat treatment processes for wind turbine gears.[Methods]Based on the design requirements outlined in the national standard GB/T 14230-2021,comparative bending fatigue tests were conducted on two types of wind turbine planetary gears with significantly different hardened layer depths. The Chauvenet criterion was employed to eliminate suspicious data points from the test data.A grouped comparison method and t-test were utilized for data analysis, and dissection of the test samples was performed to verify the heat treatment quality of both types of gears.[Results]The results indicate that, under com-parable heat treatment quality conditions, gears with the greater hardened layer depth exhibit significantly higher bending fatigue strength at both high and low stress levels compared to those with the shallower hardened layer depth.
